We all know Perry the Platypus, from that evergreen cartoon series Phineas and Ferb, but he is a mammal of many secrets. The show is often pretty keen to keep him accurate to real life. We're often reminded that he's a semi-aquatic mammal, which indeed he is. But there are some things that don't quite seem to match up, or that represent a remarkable coincidence. Let me run through a few for you here.

* Yeah, I know that's actually Platypus Candice; I couldn't find one of Perry but I remember it happens distinctly.
1. That Noise...
Perry rarely speaks, and when he does it's only to say 'ar-r-r-r-r-r-r-r'. That's the closest I can get to spelling it, sorry. The voice actor was requested to just make some weird random animal noise to use for Perry when he needed to be more vocal, so he came up with that weird raspy croak. And, amazingly, that's very close to what actual platypuses sound like! Real ones are rather more high-pitched. Maybe Perry just has the platypus equivalent of a gravelly action-hero voice? But we'll move on.View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9JG4DCM7zs
2. Why is he Teal?
Platypuses in the wild aren't teal. They're black. But here's where we find another astonishing coincidence: platypuses glow under ultraviolet light! The colour that they glow can vary a lot, typically blue-green, but they can also look... kinda, almost... teal!
3. What, No Venomous Spur?
Yes, platypuses have a venomous spur on their hind legs! It's painful but not lethal to humans and is used defensively. So why doesn't Perry, with all his combat training, ever whip out the venom spur? Well, it's likely because he's a good guy, P&F is a kid's show, and Doofenshmirtz isn't exactly the most dangerous of opponents, but you've got to admit that it's very 'secret agent' to have what basically amounts to a biological version of the poisoned shoe-knife. He could use it once in a while, surely? But the evidence is mounting.
4. Milky Milky
Yes, platypuses sweat milk. They're mammals, meaning they suckle their young, but they don't have nipples. Instead the milk comes out of their pores all over their body. Perry is shown sweating milk when under stress several times in the show. Now strictly speaking, this isn't really 'sweat' as we'd understand it. Platypuses are semi-aquatic. If they need to cool down, they get in the water. They don't sweat. It's just that their pores have evolved to a different purpose.

THE BIG REVEAL
So, maybe you've already added up a few facts here. Perry has an unusually low-pitched voice. He spends a lot of time under UV lights. He apparently has no venom spur. He lactates.... now, here's the thing. Female platypuses don't have venom spurs, and male platypuses don't lactate. Perry the platypus is biologically female, but he goes by 'He' and wears a decidedly masculine hat and idioms.PERRY THE PLATYPUS IS TRANS!
