Actually, it's only certain electric heaters that get close to 100% efficiency, and even those lose a tiny amount of energy to the electromagnetic effect of the wiring.

Was basically what was going on through my head today... water heater decided I wasn't allowed hot water after five minutes in the shower. Turned it to full heat and it warmed up a tad but then it went to about as cold as if I was being hit by ice.
